Suarez, Messi Restore Barca’s La Liga Lead
Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi scored in the final 20 minutes as Barcelona restored their five-point lead at the La Liga summit with a 2-0 win over Villarreal on Sunday.
The home side had a man sent off on the hour mark when Daniel Raba fouled Sergio Busquets.
That opened the game for the Blaugrana.
Their relentless pressure on Villarreal finally paid off when Suarez rounded off a fine team move in the 72nd minute before Messi fired home a second seven minutes from time.
The win was a relief for the Catalan giants, who had drawn their last two games with Valencia and Celta Vigo.
And striker Suarez was delighted with the outcome, while commending the Yellow Submarines for putting up a strong showing.
“In the second half after the sending-off we had more chances to win the game,” Suarez told Movistar TV.
“They played a very good game tactically and we weren’t precise enough, but in the second half we came out with a different mentality to take the three points.”
Barca’s nearest challengers are Valencia who are five points behind, while champions Real Madrid are eight points behind in fourth.
