Manchester United Gain Point In Dramatic Comeback Against Burnley
Manchester United saved their blushes by coming from two goals down to draw Burnley 2-2 at the Old Trafford on Tuesday.
Two goals, one of them in stoppage time, from Jesse Lingard was all that stopped Burnley from continuing their run of victories on the Red Devils during Boxing Day fixtures.
The Clarets were off to a flying start as they went a goal up after just three minutes after poor defending allowed Ashey Barnes tuck in a Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s free-kick.
If the first goal was scrappy, the same could not be said of the second which was a superbly-taken 30-yard free-kick by Steven Defour.
The United team looked like it had no answers as it held most of the possession but no end-product.
Mourinho threw on Jesse Lingard in the second half and seven minutes in, he scored with a backheel from an Ashley Young cross.
United had 75% of possession after the break but, like in the first half, struggled to turn their pressure into clear chances until the 91st minute when, once again, Lingard stepped up to fire the ball into the bottom corner.
It was a dramatic end to a thrilling game but means they could be as much as 15 points behind by the end of the game week if Manchester City beat Newcastle United on Wednesday.
