North Korea To Send Ceremonial Head To South
North Korea’s ceremonial head of state, Kim Yong-nam, will lead a 22-member delegation to the South beginning on Friday, the South’s Unification Ministry said on Monday.
Pyongyang’s highest ranking official is expected in Pyeongchang for the Winter Olympics.
But the ministry did not state whether Yong-nam would attend the opening ceremony of the Games.
He is the head of the parliament in the North and will be the highest-level official to visit South Korea in four years.
The two Koreas’ athletes will march under one flag at the opening ceremony.
Many analysts believe the North’s participation in the Games is a diplomatic move to ease international pressure and sanctions over its nuclear and missile programmes.
In their first ever game together, the united Korean women’s ice hockey team lost 3-1 to Sweden in a friendly.
