Karim Benzema believes his chances of playing for France at the World Cup in 2018 are slim as Didier Deschamps remains the French coach.

The Real Madrid forward, who has 25 goals for the Les Blues, has not featured for the 1998 world champions since October, 2015.

His French career hit the rock after he was fingered in the infamous ‘sex tape’ scandal. Benzema was accused of attempting to blackmail his French teammate Mathieu Valbuena.

“Of course I believe it [playing for France again]. I still believe in it,” the 29-year-old Benzema told Canal+ on Sunday.

“But it’s been over two-and-a-half years, you can’t be stupid. As long as Didier Deschamps is coach I will have no chance of returning to the French team.”

Benzema also said he wants “to play at the World Cup, I want to win something with my country.”

Benzema Not In Talking Terms With Deschamps

He stated that he does not talk to Deschamp.

“It’s deadlock,” the Madrid attacker said. “We talked on the phone before the Euros but there was no explanation. After that, he turned his back on me.”
