Last season wonder team and Ligue 1 champions, Monaco, were on Tuesday knocked out of the Uefa champions league and Europe following defeat by RB Leipzig.
The team, now without the services of Bernando Silva, Kylian Mbappe, Benjamin Mendy and Tiemoue Bakayoko, has struggled in Europe from the outset.
Prior to the game, Monaco had only collected two points from an available 12 and needed a win to keep their champions league run going.
They were playing host to another revelation from last season, RB Leipzig but things went awry from the outset as the Principality club was already 3-0 down after 31 minutes.
The loss kicked the team out of Europe for the season as it condemned them to the bottom of Group G, denying them a chance to drop to the Europa league.
Leonardo Jardim’s side was all over the place against a clinical Leipzig with the Falcao goal the highlight of a miserable night for the club
“We’ve always paid heavily for our errors in this group,” coach Jardim said. “We haven’t been up to the level of such a competition, with three defeats at home and two draws away.
“We need to build a stronger team for next season.”
