Lionel Messi says he and rival Cristiano Ronaldo do not share close relationship as they have never spent enough time together to gel.
Both players have been rivals for over a decade, and have received various individual awards between them.
Speaking to Daily Mail, the Argentina international said the alleged enmity between them is a creation by the media.
He said he hardly speaks with the Portguese star and their relationship often ends on the pitch.
“I don’t know if we will be. Friendship is built through spending time together and getting to know each other,” he said.
“We have no relationship, mainly because we only see each other at awards ceremonies and that’s the only time we speak.
“Everything is fine, but our lives don’t cross over very often.”
Speaking further, Messi tipped Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Luis Suarez to compete for the Ballon d’Or in the future.
