Islamic Leaders Declare East Jerusalem As Palestinian Capital
Islamic leaders have called on world powers to recognise occupied East Jerusalem as the capital of the “State of Palestine.”
The call was made on Wednesday at an emergency meeting convened by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoga.
It was a gathering of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in Istanbul, seeking a tough response to the recognition by US President Donald Trump of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
At the meeting, Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas urged the US to exclude itself from the peace process.
And their final statement declared “East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine,” calling on “all countries to recognise the State of Palestine and East Jerusalem as its occupied capital.”
